This eponymous effort rips the door of its hinges with the opening track “Reset, Rebuild, Reclaim”, which has some major Slayer and Death Angel-style riffage and seriously killer lead work. And to save the constant comparisons, most songs remind me of Death Angel or Accept. The band doesn’t shy away from wearing their influences on their sleeves as they most recently released CHAMPIONS, a tribute album featuring covers of everyone from Judas Priest and Twisted Sister to Limp Bizkit and…David Hasselhoff. That being said, songs like “Repaid in Kind” and “The Road Not Taken” are drenched in Mark Tornillo-era Accept and I’m here for it.

GODSLAVE is laden heavily with deeply meaningful lyrics, such as one of my favorite tracks, "And Yet I Stand", which addresses coping with self-hatred and depression with "Square One". Something that makes the band unique is that they make a conscious effort to be positive, even when dealing with subject matter that can weigh heavily on the human psyche. They're heavy and heartfelt, aware and awake. While I don't know how often I'd come back to this album, the musicianship is top notch, especially the drumming. It's the stand out element on the album for me.
