Behemoth have been dominating the Satanic black/death metal scene for literally as long as I have had conscious thought. Now you’re gonna read Satanic as the Devil, and in ways you may be right, however the band doesn’t believe in or worship a Christian Satan. Instead, they use the imagery to represent freedom, much like the TST does.

Theology debates aside, Behemoth have been pioneers in the Polish metal scene since the early 90s. I think just about every metal head goes through a stage of listening to them. I know I did. I did drift way once I found genres that spoke to me more, but I was so…jazzed? Pumped? I don’t know the word, but excited will suffice to have the opportunity to review their latest installment. 

Admittedly, the first few songs on the album surprised me. They’re powerful, heavy, but thoughtful songs. Ones that may appeal to newer metal heads. It does turn into Satan fest - they do a killer cover Venom's In League with Satan and had Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir guest on it with some dual vocals. Even though the songs ooze ideas on freedom and being your own master, it does play into the theatrics too.

Honestly though, it’s the best Behemoth album, in my opinion. I am glad to see they’re still maintaining this level of heavy.
