Hailing from Japan and being a long-standing band within the scene, Sigh is back with their latest album Goh-ka.

 

So, before I jump into this, I feel inclined to explain just how long I’ve listened to J-Rock & V-Kei. It’s basically been my whole life. From Malice Mizer, Dir En Grey, Bucktick to BabyMetal and more. I adore J-Rock. So, I am sad to say this is my first listening of Sigh. But I am so happy to have discovered them.

 

Now, Sigh isn’t V-Kei, but they’re definitely J-rock. With a range that spans traditional instruments, traditional singing and modern rock sounds. It’s a sound that nearly stopped me from focusing on writing and caught me just listening to the album.

 

I think the best word for this album is eclectic. It doesn’t stick to just one genre as you flow through the music. You get traditional elements, black metal elements, orchestral elements and much more. It’s truly a wall-to-wall soundscape. It’s almost relentless, but in the best way possible. It’s weird and avante-garde. I know that may read as a deterrent but trust me it’s not. It feels impossible to pick out a standout track because each is a stand out on its own.
