FORSMÁN, one of the most promising new names to emerge from Iceland’s black metal underground, will release their debut album, Brenndar Rústir & Fuðrandi Fjörur, on June 26th via Vesperian through Metal Blade Records worldwide.

 

My first thought while listening to this album is just how nostalgic it feels. Like the old days of blackened death metal and mysterious burning churches. The images of corpse paint and grimacing faces? These are what played in my head while listening to this album.

 

This is truly an outstanding debut for the genre. It’s heavy, droning, and deliciously macabre. It’s a solid performance from all parts. The music is technical, the blast beats are impressively sustained, and the vocals are top notch. You must be in peak performance to pull off what Forsmán is doing.
