Once again, Perris Records are back at it with another two-CD set that'll get your blood pumping if you're into Melodic Rock. This time around, the label has paired Acacia Avenue's “Early Warning” and “Worlds Apart” into one package. For those not in the know, Acacia Avenue is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Torben Enevoldsen, who surrounds himself with an impressive cast of guest musicians.
“Early Warning” reads like a who's who of Melodic Rock and Metal, especially in the vocal department. Featured singers include Rob Moratti (ex-Saga, Final Frontier), Mats Levén (Candlemass), Andy Engberg (Sorcerer) and several others. The album is a hidden AOR masterclass, showcasing exactly how this style should be written and performed. Enevoldsen's guitar work is exceptional, effortlessly shifting between memorable riffs and tasteful shredding without ever overplaying.
“Worlds Apart” features a different lineup of vocalists, including one of my personal favorites, Michael Bastholm Dahl (Artillery). Also lending their talents are Peter Sundell (C.O.P.), Dagfinn Joensen (Fate) and Torben Lysholm (Mysterell). While the lineup changes, the formula remains the same: huge hooks, soaring choruses and polished Melodic Rock/AOR that'll satisfy fans of the genre from start to finish.
Packaging these two albums together is a smart move by Perris Records. Whether you're lounging by the pool, taking a summer road trip or heading down to the local swimming hole with your best girl, this collection provides the perfect soundtrack.
