NORTH SEA ECHOES – featuring progressive metal pioneers singer Ray Alder and guitarist Jim Matheos of Fates Warning – are back with a new studio album, How To Cast A Shadow, set for release on July 24th on Metal Blade Records!

I think most who know me know I enjoy progressive metal/rock. So, to get this to review was quite a treat. I hadn’t heard of the band previously, so off to discover I went.

It is a two-person band that did get some live drumming for this album. Otherwise, the bits that are missing in the makeup are programmed. This is basically an industry standard so no surprises there. The surprises do come by just how talented these two are. The album is a collective of musical influences. Be it new wave, prog, or just rock in general. It’s an easy album to listen to because each track flows really well.

I may not have a standout track because I just need to listen to it more, but overall the album is great. The vocals are solid; the musicality is there. So, I’d definitely recommend listening to it.
