Darkthrone

Pre-Historic Metal

Peaceville Records

2026

In a year marking four decades since their first incarnation as Black Death, 2026 sees the return of Norwegian duo Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, better known as Darkthrone.

To say I’ve never heard of Darkthrone would be an absolute lie. As I was discovering music and figuring out that I am polyamorous, I listened to so much black metal. So of course, Darkthrone had been in my rotation.

It’s insane to think that they’ve been making music essentially as long as I’ve been alive. And to get to experience said music many times in my lifetime. This album, to me, is just perfect Darkthrone.

The album is heavy; the lyrics are brutal. It’s a KO punch in the genre they’ve dominated for decades. My only criticism is the mix. It felt as if all the music was run through a muffler as to quiet the impact some. Now this could be my headphones or the electrical damage in my own ears. Other than the mix, it is a solid LP.

Come pay some respect to the pioneers of their genre!
