Buffalo, New York’s Cemetery Echo emerge from the shadows with Civitas Lacrimarum (“City of Tears”), their debut full-length and most ambitious descent yet into the self-styled world of “Haunt ’n’ Roll,” out now via Seeing Red Records.

 

This is a goth rock dream. Steeped in nostalgia but unique enough to stand out. Seeing that they refer to themselves as Haunt N Roll, I can’t help but fully agree. There’s everything you want here from a goth rock album. Synth style guitars, the melancholy beat, something to sway to. Then there’s an ebb and flow to the vocals that sway between post punk and some blackened death.

 

It’s hard for me to pick out a standout on the album because this is like peak old school Rook. This is the music or genre that got me into the scene. So, this is a fantastic walk through memories for me.

 

It’s gonna stay on repeat.
