We Fight Back!
Headbangers Records
2026
The Frisian Thrash Metal band Atmoran recently dropped their debut album, “We Fight Back!”, courtesy of Headbangers Records. The album is available on all digital platforms, as well as CD, with a limited vinyl pressing on the way.
So, let's dig into what Atmoran are bringing to the table. The press sheet lists Metallica, Exodus, Gojira, Lamb Of God, and Pantera as reference points. While I'm not a huge fan of some of those bands, I'd say it's a fair comparison overall, except maybe Pantera. Then again, I never liked Pantera enough to remember exactly what they sound like. Personally, I hear a lot more Exodus than anything else mentioned.
That said, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the slight Blackened edge running throughout the album. There are shades of Goatwhore and Toxic Holocaust lurking beneath the surface, and I'm also getting major vibes from The Haunted, particularly the “Revolver” era. There's definitely a Gothenburg influence woven into Atmoran's sound.
While “We Fight Back!” is the band's debut, you'd never know it. These guys sound like seasoned veterans who already know exactly who they are and what they want to accomplish. There's no easing the listener into things, either. After hearing the opening track, "The Cross," I knew precisely what I was in for: modern Thrash infused with Blackened aggression and a healthy dose of Gothenburg melody.
My appreciation for this band was instantaneous. From the moment I hit play, I was met with fury, power, and unrelenting aggression. It certainly doesn't hurt that Atmoran have a knack for writing killer intros and building tension before unleashing absolute havoc. Another thing that deserves praise is the production. It's fantastic. Music like this can become a chore if the recording is muddy or over compressed, but that's not an issue here. Everything is crisp, powerful, and polished without sacrificing any of the album's bite.
The song lengths are another major plus. Nothing overstays its welcome, with every track clocking in at around four minutes. The band gets in, wrecks your neck, and moves on to the next assault. It's the kind of album I would've obsessed over as a kid, a little over thirty minutes of pure Thrash destruction that rips you a new asshole and leaves you wanting more.
I don't come across many newer Thrash bands that hit me the way Atmoran has. “We Fight Back!” is already a strong contender for my year-end list, and I'm absolutely going to need that vinyl edition because I have a feeling these songs are going to slay in analog. Don't sleep on this one, check out Atmoran immediately.
Standouts – “Selfish”, “Shadows”, “Wholesale Massacre” and title track “We Fight Back!”
