I was mad excited when Sinner's latest release landed in my inbox! Sinner is a German Metal institution, and I can't tell you how many hours I spent wearing out “Touch Of Sin”, “Comin' Out Fightin'” and “Dangerous Charm” when I was a kid. Back then, if it came out on Noise Records, chances are I was going to buy it or, at the very least, hunt it down. That's where my relationship with Sinner began, and while I haven't followed every release over the years, I've always checked in to see what the band was up to.

I was thrilled to hear there was a new Sinner album on the way. What I wasn't prepared for was discovering that “Boom Bang Goodbye” would be the band's final release. The press release doesn't explain why, and I haven't dug into it any further, but it's still a sad moment. Watching one of the bands you grew up with call it a day is never easy.

If this really is Sinner's farewell, they're certainly not limping across the finish line.

On “Boom Bang Goodbye”, the band comes out swinging, delivering one last collection of Melodic Heavy Metal packed with great songwriting and a few heavyweight guest appearances to help celebrate the occasion.

The always-impressive Ronnie Romero lends his incredible voice to three tracks: "All Night Long," "Leave It All Behind" and "Hellbreaker." Of those, "Leave It All Behind" is worth the price of admission by itself. In my opinion, it's the best vocal performance I've heard from Romero to date.

Soilwork's Björn "Speed" Strid also makes an appearance on the barnburner "Are You Ready," a melodic powerhouse that hits with the intensity of a blazing summer sun. Meanwhile, Saga's Michael Sadler delivers an outstanding performance on the dramatic "Turn The Page." Even though the song moves at a brisk pace, it's loaded with emotion and proves that melody and feeling still matter.

It's always bittersweet when a legendary band decides it's time to call it quits, but if you're going to close the book, this is exactly how you do it. You bring along some of the finest musicians in the business, leave everything on the table and remind everyone why you've earned your place in Heavy Metal history.

I've enjoyed Sinner ever since the mid-'80s, and without question, this is their strongest album since those glory days. It feels like they knew exactly what they wanted this record to be - a final statement with nothing left unsaid.

If you're a longtime Sinner fan or simply love Melodic Heavy Metal, “Boom Bang Goodbye” is an absolute must-have. As for me, I have a feeling this one's going to be in heavy rotation all summer long.
