With "Ghosts of Europa", the enigmatic Norwegian artistic entity known as MORTIIS presents an album that he views as a creative liberation.

Let me just say, this album made me immediately smile and start reminiscing. Allow me to explain. I have a super eclectic taste when it comes to music. I listen to everything, literally. I was also that goth kid that got bullied in school while listening to London After Midnight, Skinny Puppy, The Crux Shadows. I was fully immersed in these electronic, goth, heavily synthesized songs and music. So being able to listen to Mortiis is almost like a homecoming.

Okay, so enough reminiscing. This album, Ghosts of Europa, is a beautiful love letter to the genre it sits in. It’s emotional, haunting and maybe even a bit healing. The lyrics are relatable, sometimes very positive, and catchy. There is a repetitiveness to the chorus that catches you and urges you to sing along.

The music is so well done. A classic sound without sounding dated. Honestly, this whole album is the type of music that inspires people to create. Be it paintings, poetry, or writing. The haunting beauty of dark shadows, gloomy skies, and thunderstorms.

I could lament on and on just how good this album is. I am immediately adding it to my normal rotation of music. I encourage you to do the same.
