Ukrainian based band, Insurrectum, debut their very first album, The Last Battle. A symphonic prog death project that is for sure going to make a mark.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but definitely got more than I bargained for. I read progressive and black metal and assumed it would be just that. But I was blown away by the orchestral elements to the band. So, yea, the band is Progressive Symphonic Black Metal, which I believe is the first genre of its kind.

The technical elements pulled in me immediately. Lord knows I love precision in music. The symphony was shocking in the most organic and beautiful way. Like, imagine if Dimmu Borgor had far more intelligible lyrics and vocals? That level or orchestra is awesome to achieve. The growls and vocals in general seemed to come at ease. No force or straining. It’s just an outstanding vocal technique. And the super cool part? The album is releasing in English and Ukrainian! Both are a bit lyrically different but to have an artist pay respect to their native land is just…fantastic to me.

I feel as if I could lament on and on about them. Instead, I’ll implore you to listen.
