In 35 years and 17 records, Enslaved has graves stages and been staples in many homes. Coming to us with their latest installment Mið.

I’m not sure how their music has escaped me my whole life, but I love it when I’m given bands like this to listen to. A fresh set of ears and discovery. Honestly, what an excellent album to discover them with. There’s so much to unpack with the album.

There are elements of death metal. This can be in how the music comes across. It’s impactful, but droning. Droning in a way that centers you and makes you listen. It truly is a perfect accompaniment to everything else. There are touches of throat singing which…I’m jealous of anyone who can do it with ease. There are harsh vocals, which lend itself to the overall sound of the album. There are indigenous elements, which feel shamanistic. There are clean vocals too which I found beautiful. All of these elements play their parts through the album progression. Making it stand out from other albums in similar veins.

I know I’ve said it before and will say it again in the future. This album is an experience. It’s more than just a collection of songs.
