Brooklyn-based DETACH THE ISLANDS – embodied by current/former members of Juan Bond, Semaphore, For Sleeping Or Jumping, Fluoride, Husbandry, Organ Dealer, and more – presents a new EP, Concrete Jungle, ending one era for the band to begin a new chapter.

I love it when post hardcore throws in a bit of funky jazz. That’s what I got from Detach The Island. It’s hard, funky, full of screaming and a lot of fun.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but damn am I surprised. There’s a lot of musicality to it. Sure, some may hear screaming for the sake of screaming, but I think there’s so much more under that.

Colored me shocked with the instrumental piece Concrete Jungle, which the album gains its name. It’s an honestly stunning piece showing off what the musicians can do. It’s more jazz than post punk/hardcore. It beautifully demonstrates their talents. This is why I say there’s so much more to them.
