The Bay Area’s favorite grindcore fanatics DEATHGRAVE will unleash their unique and unmistakable third full-length album, Hell Is Evil, on August 21st via Tankcrimes.

Deathgrave have been on the scene for the last 13 years but, this is my first listen of the band. I am familiar with the grindcore scene and can absolutely say that this band is standing ten toes down on business.

This album is heavy. Heavy in that dripping black ooze kinda way. That, I may be stuck in quicksand, kinda way. That sounds negative and it isn’t. It’s a testament to the work they put in. The musicality is immense. Jumping time signatures, changing rhythm, the progression of chords.

The let down for me is the vocals. This isn’t to say that the vocalist isn’t talented. He so is. It’s just that I couldn’t understand all the lyrics and I can’t help but be a lyric girlie. That aside, the vocals are filled to the brim of brutality. Between pig squeals, gutturals, these high falsetto screams and this almost Motörhead style of vocals. It’s an incredible range and should be appreciated.

If you’re into grind and haven’t heard of them, I’d say give them a shot!
