I sat here trying to think of how to describe Baratro. While they are an Italian band, they feel like this Appalachian folk Avante Punk band. That feels like a lot of labels but I’m pretty sure that’s the vibe they give.
There’s a grittiness to the music. That likely comes from the distorted riffs, however there is a haunting allure provided by the cello. I think that’s why my brain goes to Appalachia.
Dusk, to me, is a standout song on the album. Yes, we’re given samples however the string instruments bring this…horror movie-esque vibe to it. Like you almost don’t want to listen in the dark because something could be coming for you.
Baratro is in a realm all their own.
