Salty Dog – Every Dog Has Its Day
April 9, 2020
I know I’ve shared this one already this week somewhere on the net, but I didn’t speak about it… Salty Dog – Every Dog Has Its Day was released in 1990, I got it shortly after seeing “Come Along” on MTV and I went batshit over the entire album – to date I’ve had it in every format available and still have 2 of them, the pic of the record in this article is mine.
Not sure if it was the time or the drugs/misbehaving I was doing but this album hit me like a ton of bricks, I just dug everything about it. The lyrical content perfectly captured the late 80’s but not so much in the Glam bubble gum way, it kinda left you room for thought or there were moments that you could almost hear them telling you to “chop us out a line and let’s snort this shit up”! I can’t say it’s Glam, it’s not, it’s more Southern Sleaze with a fist full of Blues Swagger – these dudes ain’t Southern, could’ve fooled me though! Vocally, there’s not another album with a singer with this kind of voice, I can’t describe it at all other than to say dude was perfect in his pitch and his delivery – a beautiful tone backed with a pulverizing screech and a golden whiskey soaked throat. I hung on and believed every word! It was like sitting at the feet of the master as he teaches the ways of women and the swag it takes… I ain’t shit to look at, never have been, but swag/charm and whatever else, I got it in spades – trouble with a capital T, a walking, talking & womanizing disaster! Or at least I was.. I attribute ALL of that to records such as this one, this one specifically.
Should I be shamed, it depends on the time period, there have been some beautiful moments and some not so beautiful moments. To all the ladies out there – including my beautiful wife… I’ll own some of it, a lot of it I won’t – see Salty Dog for that – it was subliminally driven into me, so it ain’t my fault, right? LOL!
